I have a dream

The very first SOLO exhibition of Desislava Todorova

February 05 - March 02, 2025

Opening: Wednesday, February 05, 6:30 PM - 9:00 PM

Curator: Gaby Grigorova

Desislava Todorova's first solo exhibition, "I Have a Dream," intertwines the threads of dream, reality, and imagination.

The author invites the audience to look with an open mind and seeing eyes at a bold idea.

The works are contextual and multi-layered, reflecting different searches of a social nature.

The exhibition is based on 13 photographs of sites with different purposes, but a similar fate - abandoned, forgotten, destroyed. The collages remind us of the beginning of the existence of these sites and the life that was boiling then, to ask the question whether people, smiles, work, progress, the spark of life can return to these places again.

"I Have a Dream" aims to provoke and slap the conscious person who has allowed the ruin, disintegration, degradation of industries, and by closing schools and kindergartens, seems to be taking steps towards the ruin of society, man, spirit. The person who leaves his home and leaves his fatherland to the mercy of fate.

The lyrics of folk songs from the Pirin folklore region further deepen the conversation, adding another layer of history, emotion, loss.

The colorful present contrasts with the black and white dream, seeking an answer to the question of what is memory and what is reality?

Can ruin be a strong enough stimulus for creation? Will where it burned, it will burn again?

The torn piece of paper that can always be restored with enough desire and diligence.

The project "I Have a Dream" is a cry to awaken the potential of the Bulgarian.

This exhibition is generously supported by The Singer-Zahariev Foundation.
